New Jersey has a big scientific industry. It is home for major pharmaceutical firms such as Novartis, Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson, Merck, Sanofi-Aventis, Schering-Plough and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Major telecommunications companies are located in New Jersey such as AT&T Communications, Avaya, Verizon Wireless, and Alcatel-Lucent.

Shipping is New Jersey strong industry as well. The Port of New York and New Jersey are the busiest on the East Coast.
